The San Francisco Film Society (SFFS) honors four guests at the 57th annual festival. Richard Linklater is given the Founder’s Directing Award in memory of festival founder, Irving M. Levin. Stephen Gaghan is acknowledged for the Kanbar Award for screenwriting. John Lasseter is handed the George Gund III Craft of Cinema Award for his mark on the art of cinema. The Peter J. Owens Award for an actor whose work exemplifies brilliance, independence, and integrity will be announced soon. The final evening of the festival, the awards night gala is the Film Society’s leading fundraising event. Proceeds benefit SFFS programs in film exhibition, education, and filmmaker services.
