Spotlight: Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival 2014 Bands
“When I first came to San Francisco, it was my first experience as being a free man, outside of the clutches of mom and dad, and what a pleasure that was in this city,” said Taylor Rice of Local Natives during their set on Saturday, August 9, at the Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival. The indie band, based in Silver Lake, now has two albums under their belt, Gorilla Manor and Hummingbird.
In addition to the Local Natives, more than 70 bands hit the festival’s four stages over the three-day weekend. Concertgoers navigated through the crowds in Golden Gate Park dotted with bouquets of fresh sunflowers and American flags. From an improptu onstage marriage proposal during a performance by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis to crowd-surfing via an oversized plastic bubble by Wayne Coyne of the Flaming Lips, this year’s festival proved to be about much more than just music.
