The 10th anniversary Under One Umbrella fundraiser was held on Wednesday, February 27, at Bing Concert Hall on the Stanford University campus. The celebration, a benefit for the Stanford Women’s Cancer Center, included a blockbuster concert headlined by award-winning musician Trisha Yearwood — an honorary co-chair for the event with Nicole Kidman — and country music legends Garth Brooks and Keith Urban.

Guests from all over the Bay Area included Sako Fisher, Lisa Goldman, Brit Morin, Jamie Myers and Rachael Bowman.

Also in attendance was Komal Shah, recently recognized as one of the top U.S. contemporary art collectors, who discussed with Fisher her new art education initiative at Stanford: the Artists on the Future conversation series. “My husband, Gaurav, and I planned Artists on the Future to pair world-famous artists with cultural thought leaders from various fields to talk about issues vital to our society,” Shah said. The series launched on March 4 with a discussion between Hamza Walker, a prominent curator who runs the nonprofit contemporary art space LAXART in Los Angeles, and the artist Dana Schutz.

Under One Umbrella’s 2019 iteration raised a record-breaking $3 million, bringing the fundraiser’s total to $51 million to date for projects benefiting women with cancers. Support from this close-knit community of philanthropists helped launch the highly influential Stanford Women’s Cancer Center in 2009. Today the center includes more than 50 leading physicians and scientists who specialize in research, prevention and treatment of women’s cancers.
