“I love summer, but I think I’m ready for it to be over,” said Nicky Hilton at Neiman Marcus in San Francisco on Tuesday, September 2. Celebrating the release of her first book, 365 Style (Harlequin; Available at Barnes&Noble and Amazon), Hilton shared her preferred style season: fall. “I”m ready to put on some nice chunky knits, pairing them with some leather leggings and ankle booties,” she said. “Fall is my favorite season to dress for, and you get to have so much fun with accessories from scarves and hats to crossbody bags.”

While Hilton has style tips for each day of the year, the title of Hilton’s book actually relates to her fashion formula for a timeless wardrobe. By identifying the three main aspects of one’s lifestyle, choosing six staple items of clothing, and five essential accessories, Hilton attests that anyone can create their own signature style. “In our celebrity-obsessed society, there are a lot of copycats and a lot of clones,” she adds. “Fashion is supposed to be fun, adventurous, and about taking risks. I think it’s so important for every girl to have her own signature look.” As far as the socialite’s personal style, Hilton credits Repetto ballet flats, blazers, and a crisp button down shirt as permanent fixtures in her wardrobe.

This fall, Hilton will be promoting her book throughout the country, and then head to London as plans get underway for her upcoming nuptials to UK-based fiancé, James Rothschild. Hilton confided that while she loves dressing up, she has yet to determine what she’ll ultimately wear down the aisle: “It’s funny, me being the fashion monger that I am, I haven’t zeroed in on a designer, a cut, style, fabric. Nothing. I’ve got a lot of planning to do.”
