San Francisco Opera Ball 2016
As one of the premiere philanthropic events on the West Coast, the San Francisco Opera rang in its 94th season with the “La Revolution Et L’Amour” Opera Ball on Friday, September 9, along with over 700 of the Bay Area’s top patrons. The festivities commenced with an opening performance of Umberto Giordano’s French Revolution opera Andrea Chénier led by Music Director Nicola Luisotti, which set the tone for the spectacular night ahead: a Parisian-themed affair replete with a sumptuous dinner inside a blue-silken dinner tent, featuring decor reminiscent of France’s Ancien Régime. Led by co-chairs Sandra Farris and Patricia Sprincin (with dinner sponsored by Neiman Marcus), the occasion attracted attendees like Dede Wilsey, the weekend’s grand sponsor, Joy Venturini Bianchi, Boaz Mazor, Komal Shah and Maria Quiros, who convened amongst bloom-filled urns and gilded canine statues while a harpist provided the musical backdrop. On the grounds nearby, the annual BRAVO! Club Opening Night Gala , co-chaired by Lauren Groff and Kari Lincks, was also in full swing, providing additional support to the San Francisco Opera Association and Opera Guild’s education and community programs which benefit students throughout Northern California. With this season marking Matthew Shilvock’s first as San Francisco Opera’s General Director, the evening proved to be even more special, and continued the following night with the enchanting world premiere of The Dream of the Red Chamber.
