Glamorous gowns and coattails filled War Memorial Opera House at the San Francisco Opera Gala held on Friday, September 11, to celebrate the company’s 93rd season. The evening’s theme of Moonlight and Music was a wistful tribute to S.F. Opera General Director David Gockley who will serve his final year after more than two decades in the opera realm. A lavish dinner under a Tyrolean tent, and an opening night showing of Giuseppe Verdi’s “Luisa Miller”—a perfectly tragic production—followed, lead by soprano Leah Crocetto and her ill-starred love, tenor Michael Fabiano. Attendees, such as Opera Guild President Charlot Malin, Opera Chairman John Gunn, and patron Dede Wilsey, capped off the opulent evening with an after-party scored by New York-based high society band, The Bob Hardwick Sound.
