Celebrated equestrian fundraiser Menlo Charity Horse Show rang in its 46th year in Atherton with the crowd favorite Gala titled “Ride to Rio” on Friday, August 12, benefitting local non-profit organization Vista Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired. As part of a six-day heritage event and boutique horse show, the Bay Area’s well-heeled denizens, including Susan Martin, Terri Tiffany, Lisa Keith, Sabrina Terzic, and Carla Scheifly, kicked off the festivities with a front-row seat to the Show Jumping competition at the storied Grand Prix Field, featuring riders like Ransome Rombauer, Hannah Loly, Hope Glynn and, her daughter, Avery. The excitement continued with an open-air wine reception and silent auction, before guests made their way to the historic Menlo Circus Club‘s main dining room for an elegant seated dinner. The highly anticipated gala, underwritten by fine jeweler Stephen Silver, was accented by the soulful harmonies of longtime San Francisco band Pure Ecstasy, a live auction featuring the equestrian-themed artworks of artist Rick Timmons, and the not-so-grandiose, but equally mesmerizing horse-shaped ice sculpture aptly emblazoned with the Olympic rings. What once began as a one-day horse show in 1970 has evolved into one of the most recognized competitions and philanthropic events in the nation, thanks in part to successful and extravagant fundraisers like this year’s Ride to Rio Gala.
