Many of the young strivers who made Fortune magazine’s 40 under 40 list assembled at a hashtag-heavy party held in their honor on Thursday, October 3, at the SoMa Airbnb headquarters in San Francisco. Nathan Blecharczyk and Joe Gebbia of Airbnb welcomed Travis Kalanick of Uber, Ben Silbermann of Pinterest, Marissa Mayer of Yahoo, Sam Yagan of Match.com, Adam Lowry of Method, and Catherine Lacavera of Google, among the Instagram-obsessed crowd. Rather than pull out their mobile devices or trigger Google Glass, guests could have held face-to-face discussions on how to be driven home, where to crash, how to clean the place, and whom to bring along as a date. Or they could have plotted world domination. But many were content to simply meet and greet and document the process for their followers.
