Concert aficionados again flooded the Napa Valley for Festival del Sole, a moveable feast of a music festival now in its seventh year, from Friday, July 12 to Sunday, July 21. Over 10 days, guests sipped wines grown in the region’s famed vineyards and tasted dishes prepared with locally-grown vegetables at over 60 events, including star-studded performances, intimate luncheons, tastings, and wellness activities at area wineries and estates. At Opus One, guests took in a musical exhibition by three extraordinary Russian artists: cellist Nina Kotova, soprano Ekaterina Scherbachenko, and pianist Vadym Kholodenko. Dinner at Quintessa honored co-host Agustin Huneeus on Friday, July 19, as a cello ensemble from Orchestra Institute Napa Valley entertained guests. On Saturday, July 20, attendees of a vintner’s luncheon at The Hess Collection gathered at Swiss entrepreneur Donald Hess’ historic estate on Mount Veeder for a reception on the patio and a musical selection by pianist Marika Bournaki in the private art gallery before dining on a menu prepared by Executive Chef Chad Hendrickson paired with Hess wines. Guests headed to Far Niente on Saturday, July 20, where Executive Chef Trevor Eliason prepared dinner before an intimate performance by distinguished vocalist Frederica von Stade and a meet-and-greet with the cast, writers, and directors of 24 Hour Plays.
