Celebration of Innovation
Hundreds gathered at the Tech Museum of Innovation in San Jose on Thursday, February 27, in honor of physician and inventor Thomas J. Fogarty’s 80th birthday. The Celebration of Innovation presented by the Fogarty Institute for Innovation, an educational program that inspires current medical innovators, acknowledged Fogarty and his contributions to medical advances including an arterial embolectomy catheter that he designed in 1969 to remove blood clots from blood vessels. In all, Fogarty patented nearly 150 surgical instruments and founded 40 medical firms including the Institute that bears his name at the El Camino Hospital in Mountain View.
