Bouquets to Art Opening Night Gala 2014
The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco celebrated 30 years of spectacular floral displays showcased at its annual Bouquets to Art Gala, held at the de Young Museum on Monday, March 17. The opening night event kicked off a week-long exhibition of original displays inspired by pieces of art in the de Young’s permanent collections, and proceeds from the show went to the two venerable San Francisco museums. This year, 125 renowned Bay Area floral designers created works including an elaborate 20-foot-high floral chandelier by Natasha Lisitsa, Daniel Schultz, and Carla Parkinson of Waterlily Pond Studio. The 800-pound instillation, made of over 1,500 roses and apple branches sourced locally from a Gilroy orchard, elegantly whirled above the center of Wilsey Court.
Music by Switched On Audio, the Jesse Barrett Oboe Quartet, and Alan K. Choy brought the festive evening to life, as did an array of floral fashions—created with real blooms—that were designed and modeled by students from the environmental horticulture and floristry department at City College of San Francisco.
