Gala cochairs Elizabeth Pang Fullerton and Nanci Nishimura hosted the opening night of Gorgeous on Wednesday, June 18th in San Francisco. The exhibition, organized in partnership with the Asian Art Museum and San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, features a selection of 72 works from both museums’ collections with the goal of challenging the conventional definition of beauty.

Decked out drag queens, including iconic S.F. personality Donna Sachet, greeted guests at the main entrance to the Asian Art Museum. Once inside, attendees including Wilkes Bashford, Jennifer Biederbeck, Joy Venturini Bianchi, Angela and Chris Cohan, Sako and Bill Fisher, Yuan Yuan Tan, Akiko Yamazaki and Jerry Yang admired works (including the sculpture of Buddhist deity Simhavaktra Dakini) while snapping photos with the “living” Dakini sculpture performed by Shan Shan Liu.

Following dinner and remarks from Nishimura and Asian Art Museum director Jay Xu, guests were treated to a surprise performance by the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus to cap off the night.
