"Coley" optical glasses by Warby Parker

Venice’s beloved street Abbott Kinney, just got a whole lot more interesting with the arrival of Warby Parker. For the company’s west coast flagship store, they turned to Los Angeles–based artist Geoff McFetridge, to paint the façade. The result? A massive, head-turning electric blue mural entitled “(Looking Up) We Only See the Bottom of the Sun.”

Lined with glass, accordion-style doors, the optical laboratory features a small library with international magazines including The Paris Review, and a built-in “Reference Desk” for pick-ups, eye exams, and consultations. Opticians and eyewear experts are clad with the house uniform: a 1960s-inspired utilitarian jacket by designer Whitney Pozgay. “We’re particularly excited to deepen our roots in Venice,” says co-founder Neil Blumenthal, of the optical company’s new store. “The Venice community embodies so many of the same cultural values that are core to our brand such as fun, creativity, and doing good in the world.”  The new fall collection, offers nine optical and sunwear styles for men and women (frames start from $95), in smart, sophisticated frames and hues from whiskey tortoise to newsprint gray. Beyond the sale, though, the company abides by a “Buy A Pair, Give A Pair” philosophy, and partnered with a nonprofit organization to train men and women in developing countries to dispense glasses to those in need.
