Spotlight: Rosewood Cordevalle
In Northern California, Rosewood CordeValle is the ideal place for a quiet, off-the-radar escape. The bucolic, 45-room property, situated 30 minutes south of San Jose in the unassuming town of San Martin, features bungalows, villas, and fairway homes complete with fireplaces, outdoor terraces overlooking the nearby Santa Cruz Mountains, a spa, tennis courts, and three restaurants. Highlights include a 7,360-yard championship golf course built by renowned architect Robert Trent Jones, and an on-site winery, Clos LaChance. Thanks to a new “Wine Maker For a Day” course led by some of the region’s best enologists (or winemakers), guests can learn the basics: crushing, harvesting, wine filteration, bottling, and label design. But, the two-day winemaking 101 class (which includes 25 cases of wine created during the process), means serious business. The price tag? $31,000.
For a more low-key option, the resort has also recently debuted two, 3-hour culinary tours ($400 with gourmet picnic) at a century-old family farm in San Martin, and an olive grove in nearby Gilroy.
Whether the vacation calls for brushing up on winemaking skills, a picnic under an Oak tree, or a lazy day relaxing by the pool, it’s all well worth the splurge.
