Spotlight: Miu Miu Fall 2014
The perfect windbreaker is that illusive article of clothing forever found in vintage stores but always in the wrong color (mustard), size (XL), or thickness (reminiscent of the Michelin Man). This autumn, the search will be over. For her fall 2014 Miu Miu presentation held on Wednesday, March 5, at the Palais d’Iéna in Paris, Miuccia Prada delved into her extensive nylon vaults to create the perfect quilted jacket that’s chic yet sporty and looks effortless when paired with A-line miniskirts. Prada made jackets in dusty rose, light blue, ruby red, and graphite gray, and she also created a line of clear mackintosh jackets tinted with the hues of primary colors. The Miu Miu team covered the Palais interiors with scaffolding and layers of transparent PVC referencing the use of plastic derivatives on the runway. Indeed, guests including Elle Fanning, Rihanna, Lupita Nyong’o, Elizabeth Olsen, Terry Richardson, and Jared Leto were seated on the scaffolding itself, and some guests watched the show from a perch behind a framework of poles. The space had the air of a construction site, but the various interpretations of Depeche Mode’s “Enjoy the Silence” by Tori Amos, Ecstatic Dub, Harmonium, and Hands and Feet seemed to reference an underground rave circa 1990. But this fresh color palette was a welcome departure from the neon hues of yesteryear.
