San Franciscans are adept at shape shifting. The morning chill prompts locals to cocoon themselves in sweaters and scarves that are shed during the day when the sun makes an appearance. As the evening fog returns, the layers must be rearranged. Such notions of hourly changeability inspired Miu Miu‘s Shopping bags at Saks Fifth Avenue in Union Square where Muccia Prada has opened a new shop designed by architect Roberto Baciocchi. The space houses Miu Miu bags and accessories in polished steel shelves mounted against a wall covered in damask (a Miu Miu trademark). The new bag’s side zippers allow the tote to morph from an oversized carryall to a demur purse—and back—adjusting to the demands of the day. And the Shopping bag joins a host of other Madras bags in vibrant colors that contrast with the matte black floors and the city’s dim yet captivating summer evenings. The bags are part of the fall 2013 collection shot by Inez & Vinoodh on models including Katlin Aas, Emily DiDonato, Daphne Groeneveld, Georgia May Jagger, Adriana Lima, Marina Nery, Hind Sahli, Anne Verhallen and Lindsey Wixson who dance across the dock of a bay beneath bleak skies, evoking a quintessential Bay Area mise-en-scène.
