Hillary Thomas

Known for infusing her eclectic, sophisticated élan into California residences up and down the state, interior designer Hillary Thomas is well-versed in the art of stylish West Coast living. Her countless design projects—ranging from midcentury modern retreats to vintage nouveau abodes and cozy coastal cottages—have become a fixture in magazines and online décor sites. When she isn’t on the go running her namesake firm, you can find her at home in San Francisco, weekending with her family in Napa, or at their new Malibu beach getaway (“It’s a big hit with the kids; we all love to paddleboard and surf,” she says). Here, the tastemaker, who recently partnered with C to host a luncheon in honor of the new St. John Sport line, shares her favorite Golden State locales, as well as her favorite pieces from the luxury fashion brand’s debut athleisure range.

“We recently got a place in Malibu on the beach, which is a big hit with the kids. We all love to paddleboard and surf.”

WORK
“I’m normally on the go all over the place these days so my office is my iPhone. I’m currently finishing up three homes in Aspen and just starting a big project in L.A. that I’m super excited about. It’s a beautiful big old home on the Westside that was built in the 1930s. It has incredible bones.”

“My favorite is The Meadowood Spa. It was newly designed by architect Howard Backen and is absolutely fantastic. I’m obsessed with my L.A. facialist Vanessa Hernandez, who just opened her own studio in Brentwood. I love Body by Simone in Brentwood and hiking with friends in both S.F. and L.A.
