Spotlight: Etro Beverly Hills
Over the past few years, many beloved Italian fashion houses have established West Coast boutiques on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. Now Etro has joined the storied shopping street. The new shop, at Two Rodeo, spans 4,500-square-feet and is filled with historical artworks including replica statues of Laocoön and Venus de Capua overlooking the main entrance. Handmade Venetian Venini glass chandeliers line the interior, along with a triad of ’50s oil paintings. The unique array of artful objects and décor reflect the long-standing aesthetic of sibling designers Veronica, Kean, and Jacopo Etro who are known for designing colorful patterns and pairing them together in innovative ways.
The new boutique is filled with spring ’14 ready-to-wear collections for men and women. There are printed tunic dresses, kimono-like cardigans, and embellished jackets in the women’s line, and printed shirts, jacquard trousers, and ornate polo shirts for men. The boutique is also stocked with pieces from Etro’s new joint venture with Indian design team Thukral & Tagra (T&T). The collaboration gives an eclectic twist to the quintessentially Etro paisley design, melding the work of artistic partners Jiten Thukral and Sumir Tagra with storied Etro craftsmanship. T&T, who are known for cheeky works that sometimes carry a political subtext, created geometric designs and mixed them with images of dream mansions and fairy-tale landscapes. The result—a unique line of shoppers, satchels, duffels, trolleys, wallets, and tablet covers for both men and women that reference the traditional Etro color palette but incorporate new geometric forms and whimsical designs. The landscaping and architectural references on the bags will blend nicely with the lawns and houses peppering the famous city’s neighborhoods.
