The French line, Atelier de Production et de Création (A.P.C.), has been quietly colonizing Los Angeles this summer with new boutiques designed by Laurent Deroo Architecte in downtown L.A., and on Sunset Boulevard in Silver Lake. Now A.P.C. designer Jean Touitou has a total of three shops in town (the West Hollywood flagship relocated to an expanded Melrose Avenue space last year), and his minimalist staples are just the sort of clean pieces to wear while pedaling to the park, going on school runs, or meeting a chum for tea. In short, Touitou creates subtle clothes to live in. To commemorate the line’s stealthy western advances, the newest A.P.C. stores are stocked with totes emblazoned with the names of corresponding neighborhoods. As the bags spread around town, we’ll soon see where the loyalties of A.P.C.’s low key shoppers really lie.
