Scene and Heard: Rachel McAdams

“It’s a little overwhelming to be up here and speak on behalf of our enormous and incredibly talented cast I had the great fortune of working with. I’m sure they would all know the perfect things to say, but I’m doing this,” said Rachel McAdams who accepted the award from the Broadcast Critics Association for best acting ensemble on behalf of her Spotlight cast on Sunday, January 17, at the Critics Choice Movie Awards held in Santa Monica. “I think we would all agree that the true star ensemble is the real life heroes at Spotlight [the team of reporters at The Boston Globe who uncovered systematic efforts by the Catholic church in Boston to cover up child abuse]… Thank you for having the bravery to pursue this important story,” she added. “And one other thing, I’d also like to thank and give a shout out to all the amazing local actors in Toronto and Boston who don’t get enough credit for their work and who helped make this film feel so very authentic.” And with that, the actress, clad in a maroon Elie Saab beaded mesh gown just days after her first Oscar nomination was announced, applauded Sacha Pfeiffer, the Globe reporter who McAdams plays in the film.
