At the premiere of Third Person (Sony Pictures Classics) held on Monday, June 9 at the Linwood Dunn Theater in Hollywood, actress Mila Kunis said she was driven to play Julia, a mother battling for custody of her son, because of the character’s emotional state and “the fact that she’s so broken and so desperately trying to put her life back together.” The storyline involving Kunis—who is pregnant and engaged to actor Ashton Kutcher—is one of three intertwined love stories in Paul Haggis’ latest film slated to open in theaters on June 20. The Los Angeles premiere presented by Italian jewelry house Vhernier, benefited Artists for Peace and Justice (APJ), a charity co-founded by Haggis (known for writing and directing the 2004 film Crash) to promote education and healthcare in Haiti.
