The crowd during Lykke Li's performance at Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival.

“How do you feel about this live music?” asked Lykke Li during her performance on Sunday, August 10, at the final day of the Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival. “I was hearing that DJ and it kinda scared me,” she continued, “like can these people handle some acoustic live music after that? But you can do it, you’re so good at it.” The Swedish singer/songwriter was referring to Flume, who drew a sizeable crowd due to a last minute cancellation by Chvrches, who had taken the Twin Peaks stage an hour prior. However, upon opening with her hit single, “I Never Learn,” it became apparent that many had no intention of leaving.

Dressed in an all black ensemble (flared pants and a leather overcoat included), Li brought a number of hits from her latest album to the stage including “No Rest for the Wicked,” “Never Gonna Love Again,” and “I Follow Rivers,” during which she twirled across the stage stopping only to command the audience to, “get ready for the chorus and get your hands in the air.” The singer also added some twists including a rendition of Kanye West’s “Send it Up.”

The performance marked the first appearance at the S.F. festival for the artist who released debut album, “Youth Novels” in 2008. After the debut, Li was booked at both Coachella and Lollapalooza, releasing her sophomore project, “Wounded Rhymes” in 2011 and “I Never Learn” this past May. Despite a history of being in the spotlight (she’s also appeared on numerous late night talk shows and moonlights as a model for Paris’ Viva Models), Li confessed to the crowd, “I’m really shy and kind of like dancing, but I don’t want to dance alone. So can you San Francisco people show me how you do it here.” And, with her song entitled “Dance, Dance, Dance,” it was easy for fans to oblige.
