“I love that they’re serving beer!” said Oliver Peoples CEO David Schulte as he and Larry Leight, the Los Angeles-based eyewear brand’s creative director, toasted the opening of the line’s first San Francisco boutique on Thursday, March 13. The passed glasses of Duvel at the Union Square party hosted by Sabrina Buell and Yves Béhar weren’t the only part of the night that gave the launch a decidedly Northern California feel. The 800-square-foot Grant Avenue location, designed by Los Angeles-based architecture firm Marmol Radziner included nature-inspired, basket woven walls curling around displays of the coveted glass frames and sunglasses that brought to mind the undulating hills of Crissy Field. Seated in the center of the party, design students from California College of the Arts drew fashion illustrations inspired by Oliver Peoples’ iconic designs. A portion of the evening’s proceeds went to CCA’s Wattis Institute for the Contemporary Arts, and guests admired the drawings as they donned the eyewear, including the lightweight sunglasses from the highly anticipated Isabel Marant for Oliver Peoples collaboration.
