Scene and Heard: Christian Dior Fall 2013 Couture
Images of the Christian Dior fall 2013 haute couture collection shot by Patrick Demarchelier, Terry Richardson, Paolo Roversi, and Willy Vanderperre plus a track, “On Sight,” from Kanye West’s new album Yeezus served as a backdrop for Raf Simons’ Paris show. Looks sent down the runway at Place Vauban on Monday, July 1, were based on four capsules inspired by Asia, Europe, Africa and the Americas. The riot of colors against the images of models shot in front of floral walls offered a modern visual onslaught. The show inspired endless discussion and led San Francisco-based fashion illustrator Gladys Perint Palmer to pose the question, “Can we describe New Couture as Pure Couture?” Two days later, the French fashion house also presented Cher Dior, its newest fine jewelry collection designed by Victoire de Castellane for Dior Joaillerie, at the Salons de Prestige on Avenue Montaigne. Rubies, sapphires, and fancy yellow diamonds formed intricate patterns amid bold chromatic pairings on rings, earrings and necklaces.
