Scene and Heard: Christian Louboutin San Francisco
On Tuesday, September 16, beloved French footwear brand Christian Louboutin, joined the likes of Prada, Chanel, and Marc Jacobs on Maiden Lane for the opening of its first-ever San Francisco boutique. The 1,650-square-foot space will house both the brand’s men’s and women’s collections in a new store concept designed by New York-based architecture firm, 212Box.
Drawing inspiration from the thriving art culture of San Francisco, the store’s high ceilings, simple textures, and neutral color palette were meant to underscore the complexity of Louboutin’s designs; showcasing the shoes like artwork. Hostess Sloan Barnett invited guests including Vanessa Getty, Alexis and Trevor Traina, Katie and Todd Traina, Jacqueline Sacks, Carol Bonnie, Carolyn Chang, and Sobia Shaik to shop the fall 2014 shoe and handbag collection (with proceeds from the evening benefitting the California Pacific Medical Center), and explore the store’s unique Tattoo Parlor.
The San Francisco location is one of only six Louboutin stores worldwide to offer this bespoke service that allows for a customer’s personal tattoos to be interpreted as fine embroideries on a pair of shoes. “It started as an idea of a present for a friend, “said the designer. “I made a pair of shoes for him embroidered with his tattoo. Instead of carrying someone else’s crest on a loafer, I thought it would be a modern armouries, your own crest on your own shoe.” In store, clients can choose from a variety of fabrics and shoe styles, and embroidery techniques. The one-of-a-kind combination will be sent to the Louboutin studio in Paris to be created.
