“It’s a new golden age in California,” said Ken Fulk as he held court inside Ray Azoulay’s Obsolete gallery in Venice on Thursday, September 5, during the lavish party hosted by David Yurman that he devised for the launch of C Social Front, the newest addition to the C Magazine portfolio. “And it seemed like a wonderful way to pay tribute to the history of the state and a way to pay homage to this new drumbeat that’s really palpable right now,” he added. The San Francisco-based interior designer was inspired by all that glitters as he and his team at Ken Fulk Design conjured up mood boards for the soirée. They even drew inspiration from a film of architectural imagery called The Golden Age created by Paul Nicholls of studio Factory Fifteen. “C Magazine’s new site, C Social Front has that sense of the life well-lived,” said the dapper creative who donned a silk jacket printed with golden firefly wings by Alexander McQueen. “So we wanted to throw a party that paid tribute to old California and the cities in this state that are now carrying on that torch of innovation and exuberance. We don’t always recognize that we’re living in these moments. We don’t recognize who is living in our midst. And the site shows it all.”

Fulk’s pop-up included a zebra head with a golden unicorn horn, tufted library couches, coils of gold industrial chain, Mid-century pieces, a collection of wooden figurines draped with Yurman jewelry that will be on display in Azoulay’s next exhibition, gold leaf picture frames, steampunk taxidermy horses, and shirtless gents holding golden retriever puppies. “We came into Ray’s space and we’ve wreaked havoc across his gallery,” said Fulk. “We’re taking a moment to be a little silly and avant-garde. It’s about a celebration of the life that we get to lead here and the bountiful richness of it. Let’s have a little fun.”
