The evolution of Rachel Comey’s 12-year-old eponymous brand from a wholesale menswear label to a full-scale, post-recession women’s line is nothing short of miraculous. This summer, Comey and her business partner Sean Carmody add an exclamation point to their success with the opening of the New York label’s second brick and mortar—in one of L.A.’s most esteemed shopping corridors, no less. The pair worked hand-in-hand with San Francisco-based interiors guru Charles de Lisle (who also contributed to the design of the first Rachel Comey outpost in Soho) and Los Angeles-based architect Linda Taalman to build out the 2,600 square-foot space featuring terra cotta-style flooring, poured concrete walls and a hand-felted mural. With exposed brick walls and a wrap-around wicker bench, the space is at once raw, yet comfortable—just like the fall collection. While Angelenos have been able to stock up on Comey’s coveted mules and indie silhouettes at local outlets including TenOverSix and Mohawk General Store, the new Melrose Place shop will showcase the full scope of the collection and even a few exclusives. 8432 Melrose Pl., WeHo, 323-852-3152
