Perfect Pairing: Sundry + J.Crew
With one last gathering in Indio left this season, Californians are heading back to the beaches. Just in time for the great migration, Los Angeles-based apparel line Sundry is teaming up with J.Crew for a collection of separates fusing Sundry founder Matthieu LeBlan’s laid-back aesthetic with J.Crew’s understated utilitarianism. LeBlan—a French-born, ESAG/Penninghen-trained artist who also surfs—found himself inspired by the eclectic styles of Venice Beach while creating looks for the collaboration. Sundry is known for its women’s striped pullovers (a nod to Chanel, perhaps), colorful jumpers, cozy T-shirts and sweat separates, and LeBlan’s summer line for J.Crew that debuts in mid-May includes a six-piece capsule collection of California-inspired boyfriend T-shirts, sweatpants, and shorts printed with designs influenced by the coastal lifestyle. Palm trees, a “La Mer” motif, and graphic lists of beach destinations will erase any memories of desert sandstorms, replacing them with the peaceful murmurs of ocean tides.
