If the days of enrolling in summer camp seem like a distant thing of the past, think again. Otherwild Goods & Services, part boutique-part-graphic design studio in Echo Park, is teaming up with the Women’s Center for Creative Work to launch a series of “Summer Camp” craft workshops hosted by local experts and artisans with everything from basket-weaving to letterpress bookmaking. “At Otherwild, I am fortunate to almost exclusively carry work by friends and friends-of-friends,” says owner Rachel Berks. “The workshops came to be in a really similar way. Each is being led by someone I know, have worked with in the past, or with whom I share several friends.”

Additional classes include a tie-dye how-to led by Maricolous, a wearable textile and home goods line, and a plant medicine preservation lab by Oakland’s Homestead Apothecary to learn the basics of concocting herbal remedies, tinctures, and vinegars. And, at the end of class, there’s always something to take home. “It is really difficult for me to buy anything that isn’t handmade these days,” adds Berks. “I just appreciate the quality, care, and love inherent within a beautifully designed, handmade object.”
