“I’d see these beautiful La Mer aquariums in shops, and they really got my attention because I love marine life,” says actress Elsa Pataky, on the set of a short film she’s created with the line for its new limited edition crème jar. The colorful fish tanks that Pataky initially spotted inside department stores introduced her to the La Mer line of beauty products, and inspired her to investigate the company further. “Through a friend who is an explorer, who climbs mountains, I got acquainted with the crèmes,” Pataky recounts. “He gets real wounds, and frost-bitten skin, so I thought if it’s good for him, it must be good for me,” says the Spanish actress, who is married to Chris Hemsworth, and is also an Oceana ambassador. Now Pataky has teamed up with La Mer for its annual Blue Heart initiative benefiting a series of ocean-focused charities, and she’s created a short film chronicling her love of the world’s oceans and the sea creatures that live in them.

“I lived in Santa Monica for eight years, and whenever I’d go to the beaches there and in Venice it would always clear my head and brought me through the ups and downs of being away from my family,” says the actress who was born in Madrid but spent summers at the beaches along Spain’s coast with her windsurfing father. “I started diving and it’s like being in another world. All you hear is your own breath.” Pataky says her childhood fascination with fish and vast expanses of water continues to inspire her, and she’s passed on her love of the sea to her children. Hemsworth and Pataky live five minutes from the coast in Australia and she says their kids go to the beach every day. “They swim and, play in the sand, dig for crabs. They get to run free there,” Pataky says.
