Admit it, dads. There was a time when you were a ratty kid wearing Vision Street Wear and chanting “skate or die,” as you stepped onto a new deck and rode your board down the alleys of Venice, through Justin Herman Plaza, or along C Street. Whether you kept them in a closet or surrendered them to Goodwill, we’re betting you’ve been hassled about where you stashed skateboards ever since you started riding. As Father’s Day nears, we’d like to point out that interior designer Kelly Wearstler has created one you can park in the living room. Her limited edition Cruz skateboard in a sharp black-and-white checkered pattern—handcrafted by Los Angeles artisans—is fully road-tested and also quite graphic. “My two boys skate and surf,” says Wearstler, who also created a limited edition decorative Cruz surfboard made of the same black dyed bolivar and bleached anigre wood. “They have taken the skateboards for a spin or two,” she adds. Wearstler says she finds surf and skate culture, “raw yet artful.” For her, these wooden designs “embrace nature with a bit of a rebel heart.” Sound like anyone you know?
