Perfect Pairing: Jenni Kayne + Mother’s Day Tea
While some mothers are destined to wake up to a kitchen splattered with pancake batter this Sunday, fashion designer and mother Jenni Kayne celebrated the upcoming Mother’s Day holiday with an inventive and thoughtful (yet stylish and seamless) afternoon tea party held at her Beverly Hills hideaway on Wednesday, April 30. Kayne partnered with health and lifestyle webzine The Chalkboard Mag to mastermind the spread of small bites including heart-shaped cucumber tea sandwiches and lemon tarts by Valerie Gordon of Valerie Confections (also a mother) paired with cocktails by Pharmacie. The gathering provided a blueprint for the perfect celebratory bash. Nothing was too fussy, yet the afternoon event had the look and feel of a well-orchestrated party. Attendees and their little ones chose from a slate of activities—including a DIY wooden jewelry making session and an option to create foraged plant-crafted sun prints—each of which Kayne details on her personal lifestyle blog, rip+tan (named after her two sons, Ripley and Tanner).
Inspired by Kayne’s upcoming pre-fall 2014 Liberty print collection, Paige Appel and Kelly Harris of event design team Bash, Please styled the afternoon with pale pink and gray dinnerware, antique silverware, bronze-framed artworks and flower-accented place settings, while Kristen Caissie of Moon Canyon flower design adorned the space with lilacs, foxgloves, parrot tulips, and hosta leaves. After indulging in small bites and applying their creative hands, moms and their tots went home with sachets of lavender pinned with scraps of Liberty-print fabric, the perfect send-off to the celebratory garden party. And not a drop of spilled batter could be found inside Kayne’s kitchen.
