Venice-based Paola Tessara and Sean Dix of Hong Kong have designed the newest addition to downtown Los Angeles’ Arts District, a sprawling 30,000-square-foot H.D. Buttercup located in a warehouse just steps from cult-favorite restaurant Bestia. Downstairs is the usual eclectic assortment of furniture and rugs that has become a trademark of founder Evan Cole’s emporiums located in Culver City, Santa Monica, San Francisco, Costa Mesa, and Hong Kong. But new to this downtown flagship are a series of vignettes created by gallerist Michael Fuchs throughout the space’s second floor. The company’s corporate headquarters are also housed here, located on the third floor. Conveniently, the new space opened just in time for the company’s famed post-holiday sale that runs through January 18. At the new location, Italian designs by Saba, Lema, and MIDJ, join a host of works by an eclectic assortment of manufacturers and crafters. At last, the perfect excuse to make good on that out-with-the-old-in-with-the-new resolution.
