Perfect Pairing: Forevermark + Bibhu Mohapatra
“The ornate style of the jewelry fit perfectly with the theme of my collection, which is inspired by the legendary Chinese ‘Dragon Lady’ Empress Cixi,” says designer Bibhu Mohapatra who showed his Fall 2016 collection paired with Forevermark diamonds in New York on Wednesday, February 17. His ornate designs were topped with sparklers incorporating responsibly sourced diamonds. Ear cuffs and rings by Hazoorilal Legacy; earrings by Mehta & Sons; and bracelet by TBZ, The Original; were paired with ruby or slate blue dresses, and orange or copper gowns. The Chinese empress dowager, a concubine who effectively ran the Chinese government during the Qing dynasty—and held sway over Mohapatra’s more-is-more fall collection—was known to pile intricate jewelry atop her already ornate looks for official portraits, and the addition of the diamonds allowed Mohapatra to recreate the empress’s finery on the runway. The pieces may also spark new ideas for Mohapatra’s upcoming collaboration with Forevermark, slated to launch in India later this year.
