Perfect Pairing: Candice Swanepoel + Mother
As spring approaches and denim rises move farther into high-waisted territory reminiscent of the early 1990s, Mother co-founders Lela Becker and Tim Kaeding sought out model Candice Swanepoel for a collaboration that riffs on the South African model’s midriff-baring street style. The capsule collection includes seven pieces—shorts and pants in four darker and lighter washes—with varying fits in loose and more taut styles. Proceeds from the denim designs, as well as a T-shirt and sweatshirt that round out the project, benefit a South African nonprofit founded to help prevent the spread of HIV from mothers to babies called mothers2mothers, selected by Swanepoel who also had a hand in the design, fit, and washes for the collection. Swanepoel’s family crest, a swimming swan, appears on each of the pieces included, and they clearly fit her like a glove. Think of Swanepoel as a guardian angel for this season’s festival circuit.
