Who could be a better poster child for messy chic summer braids than indie darling Brit Marling? The team at Who What Wear—including co-founders Hillary Kerr and Katherine Power—has added an online beauty magazine, Byrdie, to its current roster of clickable fashion and interior design coverage, and tapped Marling’s hairstylist, Laini Reeves to devise a few looks for the launch. Though the site is based here in L.A., the focus will be on international beauty concepts including runway looks created in New York, London, and Paris and lists of celebrity’s must-have lipsticks and polishes. Site editorial director Britt Aboutaleb says she looks forward to interviewing scores of hair and makeup artists as well as actresses and singers who are really passionate about particular beauty products. Creatives including Jessica Biel, Alexa Chung, Solange Knowles, and Kristen Stewart are on her wish list for upcoming stories. “For this particular shoot, we took our inspiration from the runways,” says Aboutaleb. “There were gorgeous soft braids at shows like Balmain and The Row, and who better than Brit, who has the most incredible hair, to show off a real-life way to embrace the braid. Laini Reeves, who is an incredible hairstylist, did this in seconds. It was mesmerizing.” Bet you’ll be adding Marling’s look to your roster of heat-beating summer styles.
