Sideswept hair, dainty feline eyes and neutral lips stood out in counterpoint to tough padlock earrings and necklaces, pointed booties, and miles of fringe at the Rodarte spring 2014 show in New York on Tuesday, September 10. Designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy, who live in Pasadena, cited Los Angeles as the inspiration for the plaid silk shirts, vests, brocade skirts and studded belts they sent down the runway. The striking visages created for the show by James Kaliardos with NARS cosmetics seemed to reference looks seen in East L.A., on the Sunset Strip and also the fresh minimalist palette favored in Southern California.
