California Beauty: Chanel Spring 2015
When Karl Lagerfeld recreates a French boulevard complete with a protest to stage a fashion show, you know that we’re in for a Paris spring next year. What that means—especially in a world rife with demonstrations about human rights abuses—is up for interpretation, but Lagerfeld’s spring 2015 collection for Chanel, staged at the Grand Palais in Paris on Tuesday, September 30, had something for every Californian who has taken to the streets. Models with Technicolor pastel eyeshadow shades, stark black liner, and even one wearing circular John Lennon-esque spectacles conjured idealized images of May 1968 student protests in Paris. Who knows what sort of demonstration these makeup looks will spark. For now, the answer is still blowin’ in the wind.
