California Beauty: Alexander Wang Fall 2014
Urban streetwear that brought to mind Trapper Keeper notebooks with pockets for pens and pencils came down the runway at Alexander Wang‘s fall 2014 ready-to-wear presentation on Saturday, February 8, held at the Brooklyn Navy Yard during New York Fashion Week. Over-the-knee walking boots rounded out the practical look created by the San Francisco-born designer, but the footwear also lent each model a charming bit of tomboy glamour. Makeup artist Diane Kendal for NARS created a utilitarian palette of neutrals to go with the clothes. “The look focuses on ‘pure’ beauty. It’s about lightness and the shadows between,” she said. Matte eyes and cheeks created with the same NARS Multiple also seemed fitting for the no-nonsense collection of down puffer jackets, windbreakers, and shirts with high leather collars. The heat-activated black leather on the garments even changed color to purple or yellow or blue during the show, so a clean face with very little makeup was fortuitous. And so metropolitan.
