California Beauty: Alexander Wang
If you found yourself humming the opening lyrics of Nirvana’s “Come As You Are,” while watching models stride down the runway in crop tanks, work boots, and cutoffs at Alexander Wang‘s spring 2016 presentation held in New York on Saturday, September 12, you weren’t alone. The San Francisco-born designer, celebrating his 10th anniversary show, tapped into the tropes of everyday sportswear when dreaming up the straight-off-the-street looks. Such natural nonchalance and clean, makeup-free faces proved to be a refreshing combination for spring, especially when paired with baseball caps, mesh shirts, hoodies, and embellished Teva-esque sandals. Makeup artist Diane Kendal simply applied NARSskin Luminous Moisture Cream and brushed each model’s brows into place. No one was trying too hard here.
