California Beauty: 3.1 Phillip Lim Fall 2014
Phillip Lim sent out a host of bright pastel prints that brought to mind Mick Jones of the Clash and Big Audio Dynamite for the fall 2014 presentation of his 3.1 Phillip Lim collection during New York Fashion Week on February 10. Oversized sweaters and baggy pants topped off with Lim’s take on the Wayfarer and slicked back hair gave the pretty separates an edge. The designer, who logged years in Los Angeles designing Development in the early aughts, managed to seamlessly combine the light tones with deeper fall palette of olive, aubergine, black, and burnt orange. Francelle Daly for NARS Cosmetics referenced Jones’ look as she made up models for the show. “It’s time to ‘Rock the Casbah’ this fall,” she said. “A bold, angled brow, clean eyelids and slightly sculpted cheeks give a bit of new wave punk inspiration.” Daly also ensured that models’ nails be painted with Crossroads, a dark hue that’s one of nine new nail lacquers slated to launch this summer as part of a limited edition collaboration between Lim and NARS.
