About Town: Grant K. Gibson

JANE
"Jane on Fillmore Street is a perfect place to meet for a cup of coffee or a smoothie.  If I’m feeling ambitious, I will walk to get a little workout in."

Editors' Notes

HUDSON GRACE
"Picking a favorite shop is kind of impossible, so I would say it is combination of these three stores on Sacramento Street: Sue Fisher King, March, and Hudson Grace. Each one is so diverse, and I always send out-of-town guests to them."

SOULCYCLE
"Soulcycle is hands-down my favorite workout.  I love that I get it done in 45 minutes with cardio, weights, and great music.  I’m glued to my computer every Monday at noon sharp, so I can book all of my preferred times, instructors, and bikes."

MARCH

MARIN COUNTRY MART
"I love to meet people here, and it's perfect for those that have kids and/or dogs.  Inside the Mart, you can do a little retail shopping, or pop into Rustic Bakery for a treat."

NOE VALLEY FARMERS MARKET
"I love the Noe Valley Farmers Market on Saturdays, and the Clement Street farmers market on Sundays.  I am always trying new recipes and love buying seasonal goodies."

Interior designer Grant K. Gibson, creative genius behind eponymous San Francisco-based boutique design firm, has spent more than a decade creating one-of-a-kind spaces from a winery in Napa to a private residence in Marin for a family of four. The Los Angeles native—whose travels and buying trips have taken him to far-flung countries such as Morocco, Columbia, Hong Kong, and Turkey—has gained notoriety for his interiors from a slew of shelter magazines such as Elle Décor, House Beautiful, Architectural Digest, and Better Homes & Gardens.

But, when the humble and gracious decorator isn’t armed with a tape measure, swatches, and a camera for his projects, he’s combing local farmers markets for fresh herbs and veggies, or frequenting the flower market for stems for his Presidio Heights home or hostess gifts. (He gifts them along with a vase from his own stash). Here, Gibson runs us through his go-to list in San Francisco and Marin.

SUE FISHER KING Picking a favorite shop is kind of impossible, so I would say it is combination of these three stores on Sacramento Street: Sue Fisher King, March, and Hudson Grace. Each one is so diverse, and I always send out-of-town guests to them.

FISH I love sitting outside at this restaurant in Sausalito. I order the grilled trout served over a huge bed of different types of lettuce. It’s my ideal lunch. I love how all of the fish is sustainable.

MARIN COUNTRY MART I love to meet people here, and it’s perfect for those that have kids and/or dogs.  Inside the Mart, you can do a little retail shopping, or pop into Rustic Bakery for a treat.

NOE VALLEY FARMERS MARKET I love the Noe Valley Farmers Market on Saturdays, and the Clement Street farmers market on Sundays.  I am always trying new recipes and love buying seasonal goodies.

THE BIG 4 RESTAURANT I am much more of a morning person, so going out at night isn’t something that happens too often, but when it does, one of my favorite hidden gems is the Big 4 Bar at The Scarlet Huntington Hotel.  The hotel just was renovated and thankfully they kept the “old school” wood-paneled bar. They make classic cocktails, and you feel like you are stepping back in time for some real San Francisco history.

SOULCYCLE Soulcycle is hands-down my favorite workout.  I love that I get it done in 45 minutes with cardio, weights, and great music.  I’m glued to my computer every Monday at noon sharp, so I can book all of my preferred times, instructors, and bikes.
