In honor of their new eyewear collaboration, Ulla Johnson and Garrett Leight hosted an intimate launch party on Thursday, April 6, at Casa Perfect in Beverly Hills. A slew of stylish Angelenos—including January Jones, Mandy Moore, Lake Bell, Minka Kelly, Jordana Brewster, Shiri Appleby, Jennifer Meyer and sisters Kristie and Ashley Streicher—descended upon the Future Perfect outpost to sip on tequila cocktails, enjoy small bites by Sqirl, and celebrate the limited-edition eyewear collection, whose customizable frames (from $365) are available in multiple color ways with both sun and optical lenses.
“I knew we wanted to do optical as I feel like interesting shapes and colors are always a bit harder to find in optical than sunglasses, so making something bold there felt very fresh,” said Johnson. “We played with the idea of invisible protection, as seen in the ready-to-wear collection, through translucent waterproof nylon.”
The new GLCO x Ulla Johnson line fuses the Manhattan fashion designer’s signature romantic style with the West Coast edge of Garrett Leight California Optical. “Working with a designer that has a uniquely feminine point of view was exciting for us,” says Leight, who founded the Venice-based label in 2010. “Ulla and I share a strong interest in quality materials and detailed construction, so it was a great experience putting together this eyewear collection. We were able to bring our strengths together to create something special for our customers.”
