As anticipation rose for the grand opening of Downtown L.A.’s long-awaited contemporary art museum, The Broad, philanthropists and longtime art collectors Eli and Edythe Broad hosted a black tie dinner on Thursday, September 17 and a continued celebration on Friday, September 18. The dinner hosted 800 guests, which included architect Elizabeth Diller, Mayor Eric Garcetti and California Attorney General Kamala Harris, as well as artists and special guests such as Gwyneth Paltrow, Tobey Maguire, and Owen Wilson. Friday night’s attendees included the likes of Reese Witherspoon, Bill Clinton and Heidi Klum, who got a first-hand look at the museum, designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro in collaboration with Gensler. The 120,000-square-foot space is the new home to over 2,ooo works of art and features two floors of gallery space to showcase The Broad’s elaborate collection. The building is dubbed a work of art in itself with its unique honeycomb-like design and column-less gallery space on the third level. The Broad Museum now serves as the headquarters of The Broad Art Foundation‘s worldwide lending library, and is officially open to the public as of Sunday, Sept. 20.
