The 2014 UNICEF Ball
Behind the Candelabra’s Matt Damon and producer Jerry Weintraub together stole the show as emcees of the 2014 United Nations Children’s Fund Ball held Tuesday, January 14, at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. UNICEF President and CEO Carol Stern welcomed more than 600 guests to the event including Sylvester Stallone, Anna Kendrick, Leah Remini, Michael Sheen, Téa Leoni, and James Marsden. Damon and Weintraub facetiously compared their on-stage chemistry to Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, hosts of this year’s Golden Globe Awards. Damon eventually honored his Candelabra co-star Michael Douglas with this year’s Danny Kaye Humanitarian Peace Award named after the renowned actor who became UNICEF’s first celebrity ambassador. Ghada Irani, Southern California board chair of the U.S. Fund for UNICEF, was honored with the Danny Kaye Humanitarian Leadership Award. Following the ceremony, Paul Anka performed his hit, “My Way,” and Kristin Chenoweth also raised her voice for the organization known for aiding children and mothers in developing countries.
