Segerstrom + South Coast Plaza Art, Excellence + Friendship Gala
On Monday, October 30, South Coast Plaza hosted an exquisite gala at the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall in celebration of both the luxury shopping destination’s 50th anniversary and the Segerstrom family’s estimable, enduring support for the arts.
Dubbed Art, Excellence + Friendship, the event welcomed 160 distinguished guests—among them Helen Mirren, Frank Gehry, Ralph Fiennes and Plácido Domingo—to enjoy an autumn-inspired dinner prepared by chef Greg Stillman, Cuvée Cartier Brut Champagne, and a world-class concert by pianist Denis Matsuev and the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra, conducted by Valery Gergiev.
The evening’s musical program—which also included a performance by Pacific Chorale—was presented by the Philharmonic Society of Orange County, and ranged from Strauss’s “Don Juan” and Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 3 to an improvisation by Matsuev on Duke Ellington’s “Take the ‘A’ Train.”
