Panerai Dinner to Honor Alfonso Cuarón
On Friday, February 22, Jean-Marc Pontroué, the CEO of luxury Italian watch manufacturer Panerai, hosted an unforgettable dinner to honor director Alfonso Cuarón. Held the evening before the 91st Academy Awards (which would see the Mexican filmmaker take home two Oscars for his film Roma) the private affair featured seven courses and inspired discussion surrounding the arts.
Director Alejandro González Iñárritu, Netflix’s Ted Sarandos and Suspiria actor Małgosia Bela were among the 40 notable attendees who gathered at Roger and Leslie Birnbaum’s Beverly Hills home to celebrate with a meal by world-renowned chef (and Panerai ambassador) Massimo Bottura. Along with chef Enrique Olvera, the Italian-born Bottura treated his award-nominated friend and guests to an Italo-Mexican feast of honey nut tamales and “painted” veal, among other dishes.
In his brief remarks, Pontroué spoke of Panerai’s enthusiastic involvement in both the entertainment and culinary worlds, as well as the brand’s appreciation for visionaries such as Cuarón and Bottura. Near the end of the night, the director recaptured the social assembly’s attention to thank the watchmaker, the chefs, and his closest friends and family. As a memento of the special occasion, each guest took home a personalized piece of art featuring an image of Roma actor Yalitza Aparicio made by acclaimed artist JR, both of whom also attended.
