Larry Leight and David Schulte of Oliver Peoples and Oliver Peoples West celebrated the debut of the new West segment’s summer 2014 collection at a private residence in Malibu on Saturday, April 26. The afternoon gathering hosted by Japanese surf legend Tajuki Masuda included an exhibition of photography from Daize Shayne Goodwin’s Ohana series of photographs capturing images of surfing pioneers and champions including Kelly Slater, Christian Fletcher, John John Florence, and the late Andy Irons. Goodwins’s subjects inspired the creative vision for the Los Angeles-based shades company’s new West line, created with the coastal California lifestyle in mind. Guests including Goodwin’s husband Aamion, Anthony Kiedis, Flea, Lydia Hearst, Fuschia Kate Sumner, and professional surfers Danny Fuller, Strider Waseloski, Evan Slater, Sal Masekela, and Pascal Stansfield got a look at both the photographs and shades before gathering around a bonfire as DJ Nikki Pennie spun beats into the evening.
