Oliver Peoples + Cary Grant Dinner Party
Words by MARIE LOOK
On Thursday, April 4, eyewear brand Oliver Peoples and the Cary Grant estate invited VIP guests to the Tower Bar in West Hollywood for a seated dinner and celebration of their brand-new collaboration, an optical style called The Cary Grant, inspired by the late actor’s iconic look in the 1959 film North by Northwest.
Hosted by Oscar-winning actor Mahershala Ali; Cary’s daughter, actor Jennifer Grant; Cary’s widow, Barbara Grant Jaynes; and Oliver Peoples CEO Rocco Basilico and chief creative and marketing director, Giampiero Tagliaferri, the evening officially launched the first collaboration to ever be authorized by the estate of the actor, who passed away in 1986.
Members of Los Angeles’ sartorially inclined circle (many of them donning eyewear by the beloved California-founded brand) who turned out to show their support included actor Abigail Spencer, model Dylan Brosnan and interior designer Cliff Fong.
“Mahershala was the natural choice to co-host our special celebration because of his innate talent and authenticity,” Tagliaferri said of the actor, who won the 2016 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Moonlight (which won Best Motion Picture). “He exudes such poise and style, which are fundamental characteristics of both Oliver Peoples and Cary Grant.”
Throughout the night, notable guests, such as actors Winston Duke and Ethan Peck, and artists Langley Fox and Tasya van Ree, admired the Cary Grant x Oliver Peoples eyewear on display, took photos against a backdrop inspired by the train car in North by Northwest, and mingled to a soundtrack of live piano which, following dinner, segued into beats by DJ Myles Hendrik.
