The MOCA Gala celebrated the opening of the first major U.S. museum retrospective by Swiss-born artist Urs Fischer. Hundreds of guests including Gala Chairs Maria Arena Bell and Eli Broad and Honorary Chairs Larry Gagosian, Stephanie Seymour and Peter M. Brant, Ari and Sarah Emanuel and Peter Morton attended the extravagant affair, which helped raise $2.5 million dollars in addition to the $75 million dollar endowment raised by the Board of Trustees. Private previews of Fischer’s work were shown at Grand Avenue, followed by a cocktail reception and performance by L.A. band No Age. Guests were then transported via shuttles where a video by artist Cheech Marin played, giving riders a pottery lesson while en route to The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA for dinner and performances. Rob Pruitt lent creative direction for the collage-style evening which included video projections across the walls, an outdoor lounge area and a Renaissance Fair-themed space with costumed characters, a petting zoo and a goat milk creamery. Wolfgang Puck Catering provided a bistro-style dinner where musical acts by Mark Mothersbaugh, The Go-Go’s and Belinda Carlisle all performed along with stand-up comedians and the USC Marching Band.  Members of the art world such as Andrea Fiuczynski, Deborah McLeod, Jeff Poe, Bettina Korek, Shaun Regen partied while Laura Mulleavy and Liz Goldwyn’s table started a food fight. Actors Owen Wilson and Courtney Cox spent the night chatting up friends. The eye-catcher of the evening? Fischer fan Stephanie Seymour in a fur shift and impossibly high heels.
